Not much going on around here this morning. I’m getting ready for some taped statements later today. Oliver is sick. I came home yesterday and he greeted me at the front door with a meek “arg”, one of his eyes total glued shut with goo.

I hauled my little pirate off to the vet and we came home with an arsenal of all things cats hate; the pink stuff that usually ends up all over me rather than in the cat, ear drops for both ears, and an eye SALVE. Yea, try holding open a cats eye so you can smear something on it – that is going over real well.

He seems a little less lathargic this morning fortunately. Yesterday afternoon he was like a limp rag.

Otherwise, I’ll be doing taped statements today and then studying the rest of the weekend for my final final on Tuesday!

Just hours after his latest episode of the Daily Dish, Oliver made the decision to leave my blog and create his own space on the web: The Daily Dish. He told me that I wasn’t updating enough for him and it was holding his creative juices back. Good for him . . .

He is currently chilling on the couch, flipping between CNN and Fox, taking notes on various stories for his next post. I’m guessing he will not be updating much while I’m taking my finals – he often helps me stay organized around here. But we’ll see how he does staying on top of his own little web blog.

As for me, I am just thinking about going to bed. I had a pretty productive day today but Monday is going to be SUPER busy for the clinic. Tomorrow I head to Brian’s family gathering for the April birthdays and then I will be right back here creating deposition questions.

Good evening ya’ll!

Hola. Yes, I haven’t been updating much lately. Sorry for that. After I returned from Michigan I was busy writing a paper and getting settled in with some oddball issues here. So what is new? Well, Oliver had to go to the vet yesterday morning – he knawed a hole into his belly – still not sure what that was all about but he got a cortizone shot in the butt and hopefully that will end his insesent licking. I also will be going to the doctor tomorrow to have my thyroid checked. I’m convinced it isn’t working properly and this will hopefully put the issue to rest.

Yesterday, Brian and I went downtown to the school’s Barnes and Noble. I picked up all but one of next semester’s books – the last time I will have to do it!  We watched the Colts disapointing game last night as well. Not much good to say about that.

Today has been completely uneventful. After I finish this post I intend to go through another Spanish lesson (coming along quite well!) and just chill out.

On 1/1, I ordered The Ultimate Vegan Guide – a book I have been wanting to get and mentioned a few posts back. Unfortunately I ordered it via Amazon’s “super saver shipping” and so they didn’t even bother to ship it until today. That is a nice way of saying “sure you have get free shipping, we will just hold your order for a week though so you never do it again”. Dicks.

I still plan to go vegan in the new year – the transition won’t be over night and will likely begin with a continuation of diet expansion rather than restriction.

Well, time for some Spanish and a glass of wine.

Adios!

And now a note about the new futon cover.

I really like my new futon cover. I picked it out after looking at just a group of swatches so I was a little worried that it might be a bit too busy for my living room but it is just wonderful. I also picked out this cover with the cat in mind. I figured it wouldn’t pick up cat hair and/or that the hair won’t be that noticeable on it. I also assumed that Oliver wouldn’t care for the texture and would just avoid the futon all together.

Well the futon DOESN’T show cat hair, that is a plus. But I was wrong about the texture – Oliver loves it and he wants to use the whole damn thing as a scratching post!!

Fabulous.

Busy day ahead

I got up super early this morning – I’ve been cleaning the house and I’m getting ready for a couple things I have to do today. I’m hoping to get home early and do some reading today before I have to head off to school to judge the moot court competition later tonight. I have to judge Mon. and Tues. both this week and next and probably at least one more day the following week.

Speaking of moot court, it appears that I might be in another moot court competition myself next spring. A friend from school is competing in a special competition through another school in his home state and has asked me if I would be interested in being his partner. If I’m able to afford to go along, I think I might just do that. It certainly would be less chaotic than the competition I was in last year – the competition only lasts through a couple of consecutive days rather than over the course of weeks. No certainties with that yet so we shall see.

Oliver just crawled out of his brand new Ikea camping tent. He looks very cute in it and it was one of the few cat specific items I have been able to get for him that he actually uses . . . aside from his litter box thank god!!

Alrighty. Ciao.

Yep, Oliver was at it again. Brian asked if he does this all the time. Mainly his obsession with covering up my edible remains is limited to meat products. He is particularly bothered by hot dogs, hamburgers, and pizza. I have no clue so don’t ask. And no, he never actually tries to eat anything of mine except for left over milk from cereal and occasionally cheese.

Oliver’s odd habit pt 2.

So this morning I had a couple hot dogs for brunch and after I was done, I sat the plate on the floor next to me while I continued to read for class. There were some bun remnants on the plate and that was it.

Almost immediately I saw Oliver eye the plate and I grabbed the camera because I knew exactly what he was going to do – not eat the leftovers. Ohhhh no. He was going to attempt to bury them!

Oliver’s odd habit

Yes, my constant companion and protector has to make sure I leave no food remnants around that might attract some wild animal to our den. He does the same thing with his food after every bite from his dish. I wonder if he’ll ever figure it out that A) he isn’t accomplishing anything and B) that no one will ever follow their nose to his food bowl besides him.

Halloween

I have no clue what is happening for Halloween this year. It is a rare day that I even care – it is not my favorite holiday by a long shot. However, last night I suddenly was in the spirit when I discovered the greatest Halloween costume ever!! haha.

Photobucket

I think I’ll be taking a video shot of my lil Rhinestone Cowboy closer to the holiday.

Last year after the fact I discovered a ton of fun, freaky recipes for party crowds and I would love to take a shot at some of them. Maybe this year I’ll make some if we go to a party and/or I might whip up a couple trial batches for Brian and his friends. I’m thinking of creating some eyeballs, bleeding hearts, and there is a really tasty sounding “flesh eating worm”. Yum yum.

So what else is up? Brian and I worked out yesterday morning and then went to a local breakfast joint. I got cherries jubilee crepes – HOLY&*^%!!!! They were amazing! The rest of Saturday and today I spent cleaning up the bathroom, kitchen, and watching movies. For the first time in . . . perhaps ever, the entire apartment is CLEAN! Garbage has been taken out, aquarium is filled and free of algae, you could eat in the bathroom, and dishes are clean and put away . . . and I can sleep wherever the heck I feel like! My goal is to keep the place manageable for good but at least until mom and Ron arrive for Thanksgiving.

Speaking of which, I think they will be able to come down on Wednesday night this year rather than on Thanksgiving day. For the last two years I have gone to Brian’s Aunt and Uncle’s place to eat the big meal and then got home in time to meet mom and Ron. This year however we will be celebrating the holiday the weekend before so on Thanksgiving itself we will be free. I’m exciting to have them down this year as it will be the first time the apartment won’t be in transition. I do plan to have Ron help me move the aquarium and television while they are here but otherwise there won’t be a whole lot of odd jobs that will need to be done this time around.

Well that is all for now – this week will likely prove to be the same ole same ole.

Water fountain from hell.

Yesterday I needed to run out and get some cat litter for Oliver. While I was at PetSmart I passed the automatic water machines. Cats notoriously prefer circulated water. At home on the farm our cats rarely had a water dish at all – we left the bathtub dribbling all of the time for them. Oliver however refuses to get anywhere near the tub, even before I ever gave him a bath he would panic if I carried him into the bathroom. Even though I give him fresh water everyday, he prefers to drink from the toilet! So I caved and bought him a filtered water fountain.

Wouldn’t it figure that he would be scared of it!?! It doesn’t splash or anything but it does make some water noises of course. Even though he was nervous, he kept checking the bowl out and I knew he wanted to get a drink of this “fresher” water. After it was apparent he wasn’t going to drink from the bowl while it was running, I unplugged it and he immediately ran over, ate a bunch of food, and then took a really good drink. I plugged it back in after he was done and I caught him taking a hesitant drink a few hours later. Fear conquered?

Well, I am at work and it is pretty quiet here today. Tonight Brian and I are going to do something yet to be determined. For now I am back to work!
Ciao.

I had a whole theme to this post and then I scrapped it … kind of. So here is what is left of the original. Oh and sorry the title stayed the same even though the post has nothing to do with “Ellen” anymore.

Anyhow, I’m not just spending my day watching television (although it is on). I am busy studying for my crim pro exam which is on Thursday at 9am. After that will be the mad dash to clean, organize, pack, and prep for my trip to St. Petersburg with Brian and his friends (his family is already there). Lil’ man is going to Brian’s sister’s place. Speaking of, Brian dropped off some new fish last night and Oliver particularly likes the albino “sucky fish”.

And on a final note, for those people contemplating law school, related to or friends with/dating a law student and curious about what it is like, here is the best visual description of what it is like to be a law student:

Designer cocaine?

candy coke

I figured I would just let you all know that if you are getting bored with your plain coke, it comes flavored now too!
Yeehaw.

So what else is new? Well I have been rather productive the last few days. Got some homework done EARLY actually! That is a rare occurrence. Tonight I am working on reading a couple books for a book report — 3rd graders beware — it NEVER ENDS!

What else? hmm… well, Saturday Brian and I and another friend are going to see the roller girls again! I can’t wait! I had a lot of fun before. Oh and I am taking two internship credits this summer and a class as well – the 5 credits I will glean from this should provide me with enough financial aid to survive the summer without having to hold down two major jobs and should free up at least my spring semester substantially. Maybe I could even have a job that semester! Woop

My sister is coming to visit next Tuesday – I am pretty excited about that. I hope her and I can spend a nice relaxing day together just chilling out. It will just be nice to have some company again.

Brian and I hauled Oliver over to meet Brian’s sister and her fiance and their dog last night. Oliver will be staying with them while Brian and I are in Florida. They own a Chihuahua who is very sweet, very energetic, and who Oliver seemed to not even notice existed. I am not sure if he just refused to acknowledge the presence of a canine being or if he was just trying to ignore him so that he wouldn’t lash out. Oliver isn’t much of a “lasher-outer” so it is hard to say. After hanging out with them for a week either he will be VERY lonely when he returns here OR he will forever loathe other animals.

And so I leave you with a thought:
Well, maybe not. I’m thought-out.

There is plenty I could update about right now but I am tired, reading for class, and just plain don’t feel like it. So maybe I’ll get on top of a real update later today.

Oh – I AM getting a faux hawk haircut later today!!!

*it isn’t as scary as you are thinking – I’ve had one before*

In the mean time – here is Oliver!

And now for pictures!!

Oliver not caring for flash.

Another dirty look. Lol, he never gives me dirty looks so I had to get this.

I got my hair cut a few days ago. I liked the cut a lot but it gave me the idea that it might not be so bad having short hair again. So I chopped all of it off today. I need to style it on my own to get a feel for how I want it to look and I know it will look TOTALLY different in a week or so but I am cool with it.

Otherwise, dad is still here, we are watching TV at the moment and chilling out. Tomorrow Dad and I plan to go downtown and just take a nice walk and check out the city.

Oliver is indifferent to having guests. He likes them … for a time. At this point he is totally whipped from all of the attention.

He had been sitting like this, staring off into space for a solid 10 minutes before I took this shot.  Socialization is just soooo exhausting :)

Then he insisted I get a good shot of him to make up for that depressed looking one…
