Since I always seem to write way too much here, I might as well just write a little bit more often and make it something interesting that I found or heard rather than those long boring updates šŸ˜‰

So here is a pretty wild story: 1 in 32 U.S. adults was in jail, on parole, or on probation at the end of 2005

I found that pretty shocking, but by far the best part of the story was written on a forum post by a surprised reader:

“1 in 32 ??? I bet ever Iran nor Russia have that many incarcerated citizens. The true shame of this figure is most are in jails because of minor drug, (Marihuana) offenses.”

Iran and Russia eh? I can’t help but wonder why this particular reader chose Iran and Russia as a comparrison… either way, his/her spelling of “marihuana” is a nice touch to this story. Without even trying, he/she made the reason for the overcrowded jails a little clearer – failure of our education system. But that is just my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there is necessarily anything wrong with all schools, particular states, or particular teachers… after all, we have all had a shitty teacher at one time or another. In general, I think that the entire system has gotten a little off track now that there is such a huge emphasis on state/national test scores. Simply being able to pass a particular test may help our schools receive more funding, may help kids get into college, may help them get scholarships… but it won’t help them necessarily learn anything valuable to take with them out into college or the working world. In college, the most notorious question in every class was “what will be on the test?” Now in law school, at the beginning of the school year there was constant questioning of what to expect on the exam. (I mention it only b.c. simply knowing the topics that will appear on a law school exam is pretty much worthless knowledge beyond maybe feeling a little more confident in yourself…) I am convinvced this is at least in part due to the emphasis placed on tests as early as elementary school.

Anyhow, moving on. Something else I saw that is a really good idea for raising money for a good cause, and is pretty goofy/fun too, this website: your name on

Check it out…

More later šŸ˜‰
